Don’t Let Cavities Spoil Your Holidays
The holiday season is always such an exciting time, especially when it comes to the delicious meals and sweets we will get to enjoy. But with all this good food, comes a high risk of developing cavities and experiencing tooth decay if you don’t take proper care of your oral hygiene. At Park West Dental Care, we want you to be able to enjoy the holidays and all the scrumptious food that comes along with it, without having to compromise your oral health. So if you’re excited for the good food in the weeks to follow, read on to learn how to keep your oral hygiene in check while keeping your belly full!

Tips For Healthy Teeth During the Holidays
1. Don’t Forget to Brush and Floss
It may sound like a simple enough oral hygiene habit, but with all these big meals, brushing and flossing after you eat is more important than ever! Food easily gets stuck between our teeth which can cause decay if not removed as soon as possible. And don’t forget to floss! Flossing will get the food in the hard to reach areas of your mouth.
2. Watch What You Drink
The holidays are notorious for sugary drinks and adult beverages that can stain your smile. Don’t over-indulge in eggnog or sodas, as the sugars in these drinks can cause decay. And wines, liquors, and coffee have been known to stain teeth! If you are finding yourself drinking these in abundance, remember to brush your teeth soon after drinking!
3. Avoid Hard and Crunchy Foods
Whether it be candy, pretzels, candy canes, or other hard foods, these have been known to crack teeth or restorations like dental crowns. Be careful when eating these and take small bites to avoid breaking a tooth. Its better to be safe than sorry and not take that big bite if you can’t easily chew it!
4. Schedule a Dental Cleaning
Starting January 1st, most dental insurances are back in full effect! Schedule an oral hygiene cleaning early in the month so that our experienced doctors and team at Park West Dental Care can clean off any bacteria, plaque, or tartar that has built up over the past few months. We’ll get your teeth looking and feeling fresh and clean again!
